Drawing

Step5aor the process of “pulling the string”.

As has been mentioned before, everything comes with practise. You should attempt to maintain the pull at a constant rate. Once again a visit to your local coach will assist you with developing the correct technique.

The process of Drawing is as follows:

step5bOnce you have taken up the stance, so that you are both upright, yet relaxed, draw the string along the bow-arm in a straight, horizontal line to the anchor point. You should draw using the strength maintained in your shoulder muscles. You can achieve this by moving your shoulder blades towards each other, whilst keeping those shoulders as low as is comfortable.

Anchoring

Anchoring

The string should be pulled back to a point where the string then touches the middle of the chin, this then forms the first point of reference. The index finger is then placed under the chin, again forming a second point of reference.

Probably the best thing to remember is to keep your teeth together – if your mouth is open, the anchor points then moves about. If the anchor point moves the arrow moves.

Holding

step7a

This process just gives you a few moments to compose your thoughts before moving on to the next phase. You can stabilise yourself, ready to fire. This “time” allows you make sure that your Bow hand, draw hand and elbow form a straight line. Your back/shoulder muscles should be comfortably under tension, with your shoulders being kept as low as possible.
